Post 5: Who is a person/expert on your field that you admire?

Sigmund Freud (6 May 1856 - 23 September 1939) was an Austrian neurologist of Jewish origin. He is considered the Father of Psychoanalysis.

In Vienna he worked with Josef Breuer, who sought to cure hysteria through the so-called "cathartic method", which consisted of inducing the patient into a hypnotic state so that she could remember the events prior to the disease.

Based on this technique Freud developed a model of the mind made up of three elements: "the id", "the ego" and "the super ego".

"The id" corresponds to the biological instinct to survive, responding to the pleasure principle. "The ego" seeks to satisfy the demands of the id in social acceptance; it develops in childhood. "The super ego" is the part that seeks to respect socially acceptable moral principles.

Freud is my favourite psychologist because despite the criticism and outdated theories he was the first to pose the unconscious mind as a place where fears and desires are kept, which could negatively affect behavior. This allowed the development of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.
